What to expect:
Weather: Warm, Dry, and Occasionally Very Hot
September is still summer weather in Southern California. Anaheim averages highs around 88°F and lows near 64°F, with very little rainfall. Heat waves can occasionally push daytime temperatures well into the 90s or even above 100°F.
Highs: 85–90°F (29–32°C)
Lows: 62–66°F (17–19°C)
Humidity: Usually much lower than Walt Disney World.
Rain: Very uncommon; September averages only a fraction of an inch.
Evenings: Temperatures can drop noticeably after sunset, so a light layer can be useful even after a hot afternoon.
Crowds: 5–8/10 Overall
September at Disneyland is no longer necessarily a very quiet shoulder-season month because Disney’s Halloween season has become extremely popular.
Labor Day Weekend: Heavy crowds.
Weekdays after Labor Day: Usually the best opportunity for lower September crowds.
Friday through Sunday: Significantly busier as local Annual Passholders and weekend visitors arrive.
Halloween Time: Seasonal décor, attractions, food, and entertainment increase demand throughout September.
Oogie Boogie Bash Nights: Disney California Adventure closes early to guests without party tickets. This can redirect substantial evening attendance into Disneyland Park.
Halloween Time at the Disneyland Resort runs throughout September, with Haunted Mansion Holiday and other seasonal overlays and entertainment. Oogie Boogie Bash – A Disney Halloween Party also takes place on select nights at Disney California Adventure. For 2026, Disney scheduled Halloween Time from August 21 through October 31, with Oogie Boogie Bash occurring on select nights during that period.
Bottom Line: September combines excellent weather with one of Disneyland’s most popular seasonal celebrations. Midweek visits after Labor Day are generally the best opportunity for lighter crowds, while Halloween weekends can feel much busier.

The Villas at Disneyland Hotel continue to offer one of the most unique ownership experiences in Disney Vacation Club, but availability remains heavily influenced by the resort's relatively small declared inventory. Home resort owners enjoy a significant advantage, while members booking at the seven-month window will find that many accommodations disappear quickly, particularly the smaller villa categories. Although additional inventory is expected to be declared over time, current booking patterns indicate that Disneyland Hotel remains one of the more competitive resorts in the DVC system for members without home resort priority.
Duo Studios
The Duo Studios are among the most difficult accommodations to reserve at Disneyland Hotel. With just 36 villas spread across three view categories, availability drops almost immediately when the seven-month booking window opens. Members without home resort priority should generally expect these accommodations to require the full eleven-month booking advantage.
Deluxe Studios
Availability varies considerably by view category. The Preferred View Deluxe Studios benefit from the resort's largest inventory and consistently provide the best opportunities at seven months, although demand remains high. By comparison, the Standard and Garden View categories become significantly more competitive due to their much smaller inventories, with availability often disappearing shortly after seven months.
1-Bedroom Villas
The One-Bedroom Villas remain difficult to reserve at seven months. With only 19 villas currently declared, availability rarely extends beyond the opening of the booking window. While additional declarations may improve future availability, members should currently plan on using home resort priority when booking this accommodation.
2-Bedroom Villas
Both Dedicated and Lock-Off Two-Bedroom Villas exhibit similar booking patterns. Limited inventory keeps these accommodations highly competitive, with very little availability remaining after seven months. As additional villas are declared, these trends may improve, but current data suggests members should not rely on booking these villas without home resort priority.
3-Bedroom Grand Villas
The Grand Villas are effectively unavailable for members booking at seven months. With only two villas currently declared, reservations are almost exclusively secured by home resort owners booking at the eleven-month window. Until additional Grand Villas enter the DVC association, members should consider these accommodations among the most difficult reservations in the entire Disney Vacation Club system.
Grand Californian
Overall Summary
Disney's Grand Californian Hotel & Spa remains one of the most difficult Disney Vacation Club resorts to reserve during the summer. Its unmatched location with a private entrance into Disney California Adventure, combined with one of the smallest villa inventories in the DVC system, creates consistently high demand across every accommodation type. Home resort owners booking at the 11-month window generally enjoy excellent availability, but reservations disappear quickly once the seven-month booking window opens. Members without home resort priority should not expect to secure a full-week summer stay and should plan to book elsewhere or use the waitlist.
Deluxe Studios
The 23 Deluxe Studios are among the most competitive studios in Disney Vacation Club. Home resort owners typically have little difficulty securing a summer reservation at eleven months, but availability virtually disappears as soon as reservations become available to all members. Seven-month availability is extremely limited, making these studios one of the most difficult accommodations to reserve outside the home resort window.
1-Bedroom Villas
The 23 One-Bedroom Villas offer outstanding availability for home resort owners but follow a booking pattern very similar to the studios once the seven-month window opens. Full-week reservations are rarely available, and even individual nights become difficult to secure. Members planning a summer visit should not expect consistent availability without home resort priority.
2-Bedroom Villas
Both the Dedicated and Lock-Off Two-Bedroom Villas are exceptionally competitive during the summer months. Although owners generally enjoy excellent booking success at eleven months, availability is almost entirely gone by seven months. Families requiring larger accommodations should plan well in advance and rely on home resort priority whenever possible.
3-Bedroom Grand Villas
With only two Grand Villas, these are among the rarest accommodations in all of Disney Vacation Club. While demand is exceptionally high, the availability charts show that an occasional reservation may still remain at the seven-month window, particularly during late August. Full-week stays remain extremely uncommon, but flexible members seeking shorter stays may occasionally find an opportunity. Even so, Grand Californian remains one of the most difficult places in the DVC system to reserve a Grand Villa.
