Is DVC for me? Does it make sense if I only stay in Deluxe Resorts?

Part four of a four-part series comparing Disney Vacation Club membership with a current Disney vacation

Is DVC a viable option for people who only stay at deluxe resorts? Guests who regularly stay at Deluxe resorts will usually find that DVC makes the most sense for them. In essence, you are already getting the amenities of staying in the best Disney resorts, so the decision to move to DVC may be strictly a financial one. For this analysis, I put a very comparable room to the Animal Kingdom Studio we've been using in our comparison.

I used an Animal Kingdom Standard View at Jambo House. I found a check-in date that approximated that rate. For a family of four vacationing every year, a rack rate discount of 10%, and taxes.

For DVC, I used an Animal Kingdom contract purchase with enough points to get a standard studio. The average point requirement is 105 points.

I used an average increase of 4% for both the value room and the DVC annual dues.

As expected, the average payback for frequent Deluxe resort stays will only be 5 years for a resale contract and 7 years from Disney's direct purchase. Since you are already staying at these resorts, families who frequent these resorts should consider a DVC purchase.

Great care has gone into making this financial model representative of the real world, but you should use this only as a guide. I make no guarantees that the information is 100% correct. Disney can change the hotel rates or the policies from time to time; however, this is unusual. Disney does discount room rates based on availability, seasonal promotions, or regional discounts. The model allows you to factor these into your analysis. The hotel rack rates in the model were taken from the website www.mousesavers.com.
